Illinois Driver’s License Reinstatement Attorneys
Helping McHenry County and Northern Illinois Drivers Get Back on the Road
Driving is more than a privilege – it is a necessity. When your ability to drive legally is taken away, the impact on your life is immediate and far-reaching. Getting back behind the wheel as quickly as possible is likely your top priority. But reinstating an Illinois driver’s license is rarely as simple as it seems.
At Botto Gilbert Lancaster, PC, our experienced driver’s license reinstatement attorneys guide you through every step of the process. We prepare you thoroughly for your Illinois Secretary of State hearing and make the strongest possible case for restoring your driving privileges.
Common Reasons an Illinois Driver’s License Is Suspended or Revoked
The Illinois Secretary of State may suspend or revoke a driver’s license for a wide range of reasons, including:
- Driving under the influence (DUI)
- Three moving violations within a 12-month period
- Failure to pay traffic fines
- Nonpayment of child support
- Failure to appear in court
- Being involved in an accident without insurance
- Leaving the scene of an accident
- Refusing to take a blood alcohol content (BAC) test such as a Breathalyzer
Understanding Suspension vs. Revocation
If your Illinois license is suspended, it is typically reinstated automatically at the end of the suspension period after you pay the required reinstatement fee. In some cases, you may be able to resolve the underlying issue to end the suspension sooner.
A revoked license is more serious. Reinstatement after revocation requires attending an informal or formal Secretary of State hearing. Your license is not automatically restored at the end of the revocation period – you must win a hearing and demonstrate to the Secretary of State that you are no longer a risk to public safety.
